E-portfolio (Group 4 Law Kam Yuen)

Session 1:

Group 1
‘VideoScribe’ is fantastic as it can attract students and draw their attention. It helps students to memorize the key learning content. Especially in Mathematics, it can show students the steps of counting clearly with the help of the pictures. However, the videos cannot be too long. The main learning and teaching focus should be introduced and pointed out directly.

Group 3
Kahoot! is very useful and it is easy to use. Some English teachers use Kahoot! as the consolidation part. Using Kahoot! some questions can be created, and students’ learning progress can be evaluated. Most students are motivated and engaged during the Kahoot! game. However, students cannot answer the questions again if they get the wrong ones. The time limitation will make students feel stressed as well.

Group 5
Google classroom is a powerful system and students can submit their assignment there. Through google doc., students can collaborate and work together. This learning method can increase the interaction among students and broaden their views of learning. It is worth trying out.

 Session 2:

Group 1
The mind-map is very clear. It is easy for readers to understand the basic concepts of behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. I appreciate the special red and green lines which link the connections among the three learning theories that indicated the relevance as well.

Group 3
The mind-map is clear and well-organized. However, the content is too much that the key points cannot be highlighted and focused. Some short phrases can be written rather than long sentences so that it is easy to read and understand.

Group 5
The mind-map is colourful and the subtitles of the same layer are in the same colour. However, point form should be used rather than writing long sentences. Therefore, the key points can be highlighted and readers can understand more easily.

Session 3:

Group 1
The video is fun especially for the three main characters. It is suitable for the learners from the mainland China as subtitles are provided. Learners can pause or repeat what they have watched according to their learning paces. However, some phrases contain different meanings that may not be understood with a situation.

Group 3
The research on Kahoot! game that your group did was amazing! By referring to the feedback, making a quiz is the easiest among the four functions i.e. quiz, jumble, discussion and survey. Therefore, it is easy to be used in the daily learning and teaching. Besides, the advice at the end of the video can give us comments and hence make some improvement for the preparation next time.

Group 5
The target learners of this topic are junior form of the secondary schools. However, the content is quite easy and it suits the upper primary students. The video is too long that may make the learners feel bored. It is suggested to have a video about 3 mins. The reflection survey is useful as some feedback can be collected and hence some improvement can be done in the future.

Session 5:
Group 1
Ronald, the course which you have introduced is interesting for me. I found that the videos were constructed systematically, and they can cater for different learners. There are also some workshops which help learners check their understanding and learning progress. Thanks for sharing.

Group 3
‘Minecraft’ is a famous game and I think the name of the online course can attract learners who are interested in playing video games. ‘Coding’ and ‘computer science’ are the trends now and young learners can have fun during the learning progress. By finishing different puzzles and giving the certificate of completion, evaluation can be done, and the learning progress is clearly shown.

Group 5
‘Programming in Scratch’ is very popular nowadays. The pictures and colors in layout are attractive. It is convenient as learners can have the online lessons whenever they like. Ten lessons are structured systematically. However, three hours are quite long. If it can link to the resources outside and provide some relevant information of the related topic, it will be much better.

Session 6:

Group 1
I agree with your points and I think point 4 and point 5 are very significant. The platform should be more user-friendly as learners do not need to spend much time to learn how to use it. Guidance to learners should be offered. Besides, a formative assessment or evaluation should be given to learners so that their learning progress can be assessed.

Group 2
I agree with all the critical factors that you have mentioned. I think the last point ‘An Attractive Interface’ is very important as we need to keep the learners visit and learn regularly. Otherwise, the online course cannot be sustained when the learners feel bored and they will not login again. Therefore, the interface must be attractive and user-friendly.

Group 3
I agree with all the factors that you have mentioned. I think the last point ‘able to keep learners’ own learning profile’ is the most important. Both teachers and students need to know the learning progress. Therefore, some useful feedback can be given to students and hence improve their learning.

 Session 7:

Group 1
It’s a good job with clear explanation on the topic. The comparison of HelloTalk and ‘英語流利說’ about both the similarities and the difference is comprehensive. The suggested improvement is provided.

A reward scheme for encouragement can be introduced as it will be more interesting. If there is a membership system, more users can be attracted. The design of the icons and outlook can be changed, and it will be more user-friendly.

Group 2
Thanks for introducing ‘Duolingo’ and ‘6000 Words’ which help learning English. The comparison of both similarities and differences are done so that learners can choose the one that suit them the most. It will be better if some interfaces are captured with explanation in the PowerPoint.

Group 3
Thanks for introducing two new apps of learning English for me. You have made the comparison of both similarities and differences in detailed. The PowerPoint slides are well-organized and easy to understand. It will be more attractive if the verbal explanation is included.

Session 8:

Group 1
I am interested in your topic as I love photo-taking. It is useful as we used ‘We Chat’ to put all the photos in. Sharing was done. Besides, you checked our understanding by using ‘Kahoot!’ at the end of the presentation. The teaching process was designed well. However, if we showed classmates’ work through ‘We Chat’ with explanation, it would be more practical and much better.

Group 3
It is interesting to use ‘Nearpod’ in the lessons. Students can present their ideas through ‘Draw it’ and teachers can immediately show the students’ work to the whole class. The corresponding feedback can be given to the whole class and hence it helps a lot in the learning progress. Moreover, different functions like doing a survey and PowerPoint can also be included in ‘Nearpod’ that is very convenient.

Group 5
This lesson is a good example of e-Learning. First, using the video clip can let children well-prepare before the lessons. Then, an app is given to students and they can explore it by themselves. Sharing is done as well, and discovery learning is applied. The pictures are attractive and students are motivated.
