Session 3: Digital narrative following the 5 steps ADDIE model
Topic:How to do division more effectively.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feedbacks about the video:
Answer 1:
It’s a pity that there is a lack of subtitle so that I can hardly
understand this video because I'm not familiar with Cantonese. The content of
this video is very logical and is very closed to our practical life.I pretty
love the settings of giving exact circumstance which highly motivated me.
Answer 2:
The video is very interesting and eye-catching, cause it's like a series
of stories. It really can grab my attention. What's more, it illustrate the
main concept very well by stating the definition and kind of using an
example. But it's in Cantonese, so it's may be a little unfriendly with
students who cannot speak Cantonese.
Answer 3:
The whole video is well-designed. I really appreciate that you can combine
practice and video together. One little suggestion is that you can add English
subtitles as some students cannot understand Cantonese.
Answer 4:
The example part acts really good combined with funny animations. And the
conclusion part is also good helping learners to relearn the knowledge and make
a deep understanding about it.
Answer 5:
The whole lecture is specifically elaborated, and it can make students
immerse the lecture. What’s more, it is made by animation which can attract
students well.If the content could related to our daily life, it would be
better.
What we have learnt--- Reflection:
We
have 5 feedback. Audience give some thoughts about this video. Most of them think that this video is interesting and eye-catching because it has been made by animation. And
this course would help student to develop their knowledge. However, they think it
also have some shortages like its language is Cantonese, and it is lack of subtitles. And
finally,we have made some improvements and add the subtitles.
Our
group spent much time on discussing the topic. From cooking delicious food to
software like Adobe Premier, from English pronunciation to traveling. We
finally decided to teach Math since Philip is an expert on this.
This
video has been made by Philip and it took a long time since it's 100% original.
The first step is to use Go Animate to make animation. Then, we shall add the
Microsoft PPT in it. Finally, combining them together into Microsoft Mix and we
are done.
I
found that Adobe Premier is not invincible because I thought I can add the
subtitles in the end after the video is done. However, since it includes some
questions for students to answer, this interactive activity can't be output as
a movie. Thus, we have to go to the first step to add the subtitles.
I have
learnt that when using some new software that we have never seen before, we
have to leave more time for us in case the mistakes may exist. And of course,
our world is really changing fast and the new e-learning tools are countless.
We have to keep pace with the new technology, master the skills and use them in
reality!
Through this making progress, we have known
that a online teaching video should have those characteristics:
1. Eye-catching and interesting.
2. Good contents: clear target, don't have to be long. Be brief and to the point. Because students might feel difficult focus their attention from the very beginning to the end.
3. Interactive activities can be added so as to test whether students have maters this knowledge or not.
4. Highlight some important parts.

And we have several reflection on our video:
1. We cater to the target audience. The police and thief story might seem naive for us, but as for the grade 5 children, it can be really interesting. When they are learning the new knowledge, their justice can be stimulated since all of us want to be a hero inside of our heart.
2. We have to master the skills and combine the software together. Our world is changing really fast,There are more and more E-learning tools that we should learn.
3. And of course, on the contrary, we can't get stuck in the software that we are familiar with. Like for this time, I want to add the subtitles in the end like what I did before. However, since we have the question part, the interactive activity can't be output as the video. So, we may as well leave more time for us when using the software that we are not familiar with.

The video is very interesting and eye-catching, cause it's like a series of stories. It really can grab my attention. What's more, it illustrates the mian concepts very well by stating the definiton and kind of using an example (the story). Just integrate the teaching content into stories, really great job!
回覆刪除Although you have not post all your content here yet, I want to say your video is very attractive because of the funny scenario between the thief and the police man. Before I saw your video in class, I had almost forgotten the method to figure out the divisibility LOL!!!
回覆刪除Really good one!I like it!Thanks for your work!
The video is really interesting and fun to watch! I think the use of storytelling (the police, the thief and escaping prison) in starting the video really helps to engage students to pay attention to the video. Also, the explanation on the methods in solving division is clear and well organized. It is also good for the narrator to give a few seconds for viewers/students to solve the question. One minor comment - the text in this blog post is too small to read.
回覆刪除The mathematical theory is shown in a particularly funny way in the video! It attracted me deeply. I love this video! Besides, to my surprise, test questions can be inserted into the video. Good job!
回覆刪除The video is interesting and attractive. The scenario of three characters (the policeman, the theif and the prisoner) are funny. For me, learning mathematics is boring & suffering but your group can present it in such a good way. It's bravo!
回覆刪除It's nice to see a real example of teaching material that was really used to teach students in the class.
回覆刪除I have been wondering, during watching the video, whether it is worth spending so much time and effort to make a video like this to teach students only two simple concepts. However, given that the video could be "reusable", I do now think that the effort and time should be worthy.
It's however important to bear in mind that such videos like this should be reviewed continuously so as to fit the needs of the current students.

回覆刪除The video is certainly an innovative way to teach mathematical concepts and the storytelling element is quite interesting. Also, it is good that there are English subtitles. However, in a few parts it is noticeable that the English subtitles are missing or that they disappeared too quickly as the narration in Cantonese still continues. This makes me as a viewer feel that I am getting less information, for example, from 3:54 to 4:05 seconds in the video.
回覆刪除Well, you left comment about Pr and said it's not invincible.I'm afraid that you will feel disappointed about this software, however,it's really a software woking in film editing area and is super strong to cut and edit video.Maybe it does not suit to be used in manufacturing learning materials,I still highly recommend to have a try about this software.
回覆刪除I attended a small math class due to your video hhhhh~ I agree with wuxi's opinion that you add some quizzes in the video! Awesome job!
回覆刪除I think this video is quite interesting to engage people to learn the divisibility of some special numbers. And you apply the Bloom' Taxonomy in this video to make students learn divisibility in appropriate practice. Nice job!
回覆刪除The explanation is very clear, so I really learn about this topic of mathematics. The interesting point is the application of the story telling approach (Egan, 1985). This approach can be a very effective teaching method especially for child education. Learner can firstly be placed in a real life situation to have a problem to solve. In this case, the learner’s experience and the environment have an important role to help learning where the constructivist approach is applied (Dick, Carey & Carey, 2005; Ertmer & Newby, 1993).

First, for the video, it's really engaging and interesting, especially the animation. Also, it's good to see that your group have tried to teach Maths using the story-telling approach. Though I didn't do any research, I believe students will like what you do!
回覆刪除To conclude, I really appreciate your group had combined story-telling and animation to create such a great lesson!
It is an interesting video. I always don't like math. But this course designs a specific background, which makes the math not boring . And with the repeated exercise of questions, I remember the concept and usage of the learning content.
回覆刪除I was impressed by Office Mix! However, when I tried to use Office mix to make interactive courseware, I notices that this tool is not stable in that the questions could not show up successfully. This is a bug which influences the user experience. The content and storyline is pretty fun! The students must have enjoyed this learning activity a lot!
回覆刪除The case show detail to apply ADDIE model of ideas. The story based to explain the topic and ideas that it is not easy to do. The ideas to learner can get calculate of Maths method. And the video use funny model to explain calculate of Maths method. Information and ideas is easy to learning that it is e-learning was important. Overall, the video will good learning resources.
